Several students in our PHP\/mySQL class have asked about installing Netbeans IDE and\/or Sublime-Text editor in their CentOS6 virtual servers. After researching the installation instructions for these programs, I determined that there was no one place that explained what our students were looking for.\u00a0 Therefore, I am going to provide an installation guide here. <\/p>\n

Installing Netbeans IDE with Oracle JDK in CentOS6\/RHEL6<\/strong><\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Make a snapshot of your virtual server to be on the safe side<\/li>\n
  2. Log in to your virtual server as root<\/li>\n
  3. Use Firefox to browse to the following link to download the Netbeans +JDK installation software; select Linux x64<\/strong> for our class:
    \nhttp:\/\/www.oracle.com\/technetwork\/java\/javase\/downloads\/jdk-7-netbeans-download-432126.html<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n
  4. After the download completes, right-click on your desktop and select\u00a0Terminal<\/strong> from the shortcut menu<\/li>\n
  5. Next, enter the following commands:\n
    cd \/root\/Downloads\r\nchmod 770 jdk-7u25-nb-7_3_1-linux-x64.sh\r\n.\/jdk-7u25-nb-7_3_1-linux-x64.sh<\/pre>\n<\/li>\n
  6. The installation script will begin running; an installation program window will pop up; accept the license agreement; accept all of the defaults, and complete the installation<\/li>\n
  7. Netbeans 7.3.1<\/strong> will be available under Applications > Programming<\/strong> in the menu at the top of the screen<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
    Installing Sublime-Text 2 in CentOS6\/RHEL6<\/strong><\/p>\n
      \n
    1. Make a snapshot of your virtual server<\/li>\n
    2. Log in to your virtual server as root<\/li>\n
    3. Open Firefox and browse to this article at https:\/\/blog.beausanders.org<\/a><\/strong> if you have now already done so in your virtual server<\/li>\n
    4. Open a terminal by right-clicking on your desktop and selecting\u00a0Terminal<\/strong> from the shortcut menu<\/li>\n
    5. Cut and paste the following script into the open terminal; it will execute when you press Enter<\/strong>:\n

    6. Once this script downloads and installs Sublime-Text 2<\/strong>, it will be available under Applications > Programming<\/strong> in the menu at the top of the screen<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
