After researching the installation instructions for these programs, I determined that there was no one place that explained what our students were looking for.\u00a0 Therefore, I am going to provide an installation guide here. <!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong>Installing Netbeans IDE with Oracle JDK in CentOS6\/RHEL6<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Make a snapshot of your virtual server to be on the safe side<\/li>\n<li>Log in to your virtual server as root<\/li>\n<li>Use Firefox to browse to the following link to download the Netbeans +JDK installation software; select <strong>Linux x64<\/strong> for our class:<br \/>\n<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.oracle.com\/technetwork\/java\/javase\/downloads\/jdk-7-netbeans-download-432126.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">http:\/\/www.oracle.com\/technetwork\/java\/javase\/downloads\/jdk-7-netbeans-download-432126.html<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<li>After the download completes, right-click on your desktop and select\u00a0<strong>Terminal<\/strong> from the shortcut menu<\/li>\n<li>Next, enter the following commands:\n<pre>cd \/root\/Downloads\r\nchmod 770 jdk-7u25-nb-7_3_1-linux-x64.sh\r\n.\/jdk-7u25-nb-7_3_1-linux-x64.sh<\/pre>\n<\/li>\n<li>The installation script will begin running; an installation program window will pop up; accept the license agreement; accept all of the defaults, and complete the installation<\/li>\n<li><strong>Netbeans 7.3.1<\/strong> will be available under <strong>Applications &gt; Programming<\/strong> in the menu at the top of the screen<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Installing Sublime-Text 2 in CentOS6\/RHEL6<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Make a snapshot of your virtual server<\/li>\n<li>Log in to your virtual server as root<\/li>\n<li>Open Firefox and browse to this article at <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.beausanders.org\">https:\/\/blog.beausanders.org<\/a><\/strong> if you have now already done so in your virtual server<\/li>\n<li>Open a terminal by right-clicking on your desktop and selecting\u00a0<strong>Terminal<\/strong> from the shortcut menu<\/li>\n<li>Cut and paste the following script into the open terminal; it will execute when you press <strong>Enter<\/strong>:\n<pre>#!\/bin\/bash\r\nwget http:\/\/c758482.r82.cf2.rackcdn.com\/Sublime%20Text%202.0.2%20x64.tar.bz2\r\ntar vxjf Sublime\\ Text\\ 2.0.2\\ x64.tar.bz2\r\nmv Sublime\\ Text\\ 2 \/opt\/\r\nln -s \/opt\/Sublime\\ Text\\ 2\/sublime_text \/usr\/bin\/subl\r\nln -s \/opt\/Sublime\\ Text\\ 2\/sublime_text \/usr\/bin\/sublime\r\nSHORTCUT=\"[Desktop Entry]\r\nVersion=2.0.2\r\nName=Sublime Text 2\r\nExec=sublime\r\nTerminal=false\r\nEncoding=UTF-8\r\nType=Application\r\nIcon=\/opt\/Sublime Text 2\/Icon\/128x128\/sublime_text.png\r\nCategories=TextEditor;IDE;Development\"\r\necho \"${SHORTCUT}\" &gt; \"\/usr\/share\/applications\/sublime-text-2.desktop\"\r\nrm -f\u00a0 Sublime\\ Text\\ 2.0.2\\ x64.tar.bz2\r\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 # plugins and settings\r\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 # cp -rf (\/path\/to\/user\/folder\/backup)Packages\/* .config\/sublime-text-2\/Packages<\/pre>\n<\/li>\n<li>Once this script downloads and installs <strong>Sublime-Text 2<\/strong>, it will be available under <strong>Applications &gt; Programming<\/strong> in the menu at the top of the screen<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>As always, use these suggestions at your own risk.
